With the help of the Bedford Men's' Club there is a new Husqvarna K960 rotary disc saw on Engine 4 replacing the old rotary saw. The blade on the saw is a diamond multi-purpose wet/dry rescue blade that can cut concrete, plastic, metal, and wood The K960 saw is also a wet/dry saw. A hose can be attached and the saw can be used to cut masonry. The purchase allows firefighters to use the saw on vehicle accidents to cut the car away from the victim, make entry into building through steel doors and cut heavy gauge metals and concrete during rescue operations.

CELL PHONES FOR SOLDIERS - A CHARITY WE SUPPORT

HOW YOU CAN HELP

The Club is assisting the organization Cell Phones For soldiers by collecting used cell phones and laptop computers, which are

sold and recycled.  The cash raised is then put into calling cards, which are given to soldiers overseas, so that they can call

home without spending their own money.

Cell Phones For Soldiers was started by two Massachusetts teenagers several years ago.  The program has been a huge success, and the young people have been widely recognized and applauded for their bright idea and their efforts.

Donors are asked to drop off their old phone, with the battery and any other accessories they have.  The program also accepts laptop computers in working condition;

again the accessories help.  If the laptop is broken, please recycle it at the transfer station, with the other computers.

For more information, visit www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com, or contact Dave and Heather Michaels at 471-9130.  Or, you may call the current

Men's Club chairman of the program, Steve Fry, at 472-9066.

There are several drop-off points:

The Verizon Stores operated by Go Wireless.  In Bedford on South River road, adjacent to the liquor store and Hannaford Market.

In Merrimack on the west side of the Everett turnpike at exit 11, in the Shaw's Plaza.

The Bedford Town Offices.

The Bedford Transfer Station - look for the barrel with the big sign on it.

The State House in Concord.

Harvest Market, Customer Service desk, corner of Highway 101 and Wallace Road.

To date, the Bedford Men's Club has collected thousands of phones for the program, yielding hundreds of thousands of minutes of talk time for our troops

who are away from home, fighting for us.

The members of the Mens Club have been long supporters of the Stand By Me program since it's inception. The club feels this is a fantastic event for students to interact with their parents and for parents to interact with their teenagers. Many of the members and their children have participated in the program making it all that much more worthwhile.
